Going once…twice…SOLD!

n

We were fortunate enough this past month to be part of an exciting auction in St. Helena.  Our clients were interested in purchasing Napa Valley’s esteemed Villa de Montaña located in St. Helena. On the auction block for an estimated $15,000,000, the home and grounds have been named “Best Property in the United States” by CNBC International, and awarded runner-up as “Best Property in the World.”

We had prepared for this event for months.  We toured this incredible home, reported back to our client and investigated its history down to the finest detail.  Not your typical mansion, Villa de Montaña truly raises the bar in all areas. Perched above incredible St. Helena scenery and its own 20± acres, the property is entered through wrought-iron gates, which lead down a winding road lined by vineyards, pastures and forests of oak, madrone and bay trees. The property abuts and is surrounded by the stunning Mayacama Mountains – preservation land that will remain untouched and unspoiled.

Built in 1947, this home certainly lives up to all the hype. The 12,000-square-foot residence boasts 32 rooms, including 10 bathrooms and six bedrooms (two of which are master suites); three offices; a state-of-the-art kitchen (including two of everything, even stoves and dishwashers); a breakfast room, sunroom, wine cellar, exercise studio, library, laundry facilities and a trunk room. Well-designed and placed amenities throughout this incredible estate boggle the mind. It was an incredible opportunity for our clients, and we were joyful to act on their behalf in the auction process.

The day of the auction was unseasonably warm. Even perched on the hillside overlooking the Napa Valley our paddles served a dual purpose, both signaling our bid and acting as a mosquito repellent. The latter caused us some grief and amusement, when at one point Heidi accidentally increased our already winning bid by dramatically waving and swatting with her paddle!

Auctions of this caliber do not happen often – and the length of time between bids was surprisingly long. After what felt like hours, we heard the wonderful “Going once, twice, three times … sold!” announced in our favor at 7:30pm. Success – our client was the new proud owner of Villa de Montaña. Our excitement and relief was palpable.

After such a rewarding experience, we’d like to thank Concierge Auctions for their incredible work. We are certain to come back to another of your auctions.
